The 31st annual Kinship Partners “Taste of the Lakes” fundraiser was held on Friday, November 15th in the Gull Lake Center at Grand View Lodge, Nisswa, MN.
Guest culinary judges Chef Matt Annand, Co-owner/Founder of 3 Cheers Hospitality, and Executive Chef and Partner of Gather on 3 Event Center, and Arlene Jones, owner of The Farm at St. Mathias and cofounder of Sprout presented awards in each of the categories.
The winner for Best Starter was presented to Chef Derek Hyatt from Bar Harbor Supper Club for their Grilled Naan Bread Lobster Rolls.
The award for Best Entrée was presented to Chef Shane Moore from Grand View Lodge for their Sous Vide Scallops with Truffle Gnocchi.
The award for Best Dessert was presented to Lead Chef Sarah Martz from Heartwood Senior Living Center for their Banana’s Foster Crème Brûlée.
The traveling People’s Choice Award, which is voted on by the guests in attendance, was presented to The Main Street Ale House for their Pastrami Short Rib, with Warm Fingerling Potato Salad, Whole Grain Mustard Demi Glace. Chef Paul Fitzpatrick from The Main Street Ale House accepted the award.
Kinship Partners would also like to recognize the Mills Automotive Group for their generous $5,000 matching challenge donation at Taste of the Lakes. Because of the Mills Automotive Group’s donor challenge Kinship Partners was able to raise an additional $5,000 to support our youth mentoring programs.
With offices in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby, and Staples; Kinship Partners serves area families by providing positive role models to youth from the ages of 5 to 14. Mentors can be individuals, couples or families.

The premier chefs will provide an evening of gourmet tastes and the samples of wine and beer contribute to making this a very special occasion. Along with a silent auction, it is an “eat a little, drink a little, bid a little…” evening of merriment for everyone! All proceeds benefit the Kinship Partners youth mentoring programs.
While you are enjoying the wine and beer tasting time (5:30 pm-7:00 pm) professional chef/judges will be sampling the evening’s dishes to determine the award winners from the following categories: starter (appetizer, soup, or salad), entrée, and dessert.
Then at 7:00 pm, as our guest, you will enter the dining room and “Taste” the samples provided by area chefs and caterers. In addition, you will vote for your favorite which will determine the People’s Choice Award.
